Friday Featured Artist: TOM CHIMIAK

The humdrum of the week days begin to come to a close, the weekend is in sight, and it’s time for another Friday Featured Artist.

Some of you may have clocked a post which I put up a while ago
.  The post was of a video about Manchester and the Manchester School Of Samba.  It was an excellent piece of work which displayed imagery of the city beaitifully choreographed with the drumming of MSS.  If you not seen it yet, make sure you do.  It was created by a Mr. Tom Chimiak.

Tom, a 2nd year student from Staffordshire University studying Experimental Film Production, is primarily a film maker and photographer.  As he pointed out himself, Tom’s portfolio is currently on the smaller side due to the fact he’s only just begun building up a body of work, so be sure to have a look through and keep tabs on the chap for new projects!

You can find Tom’s video portfolio here, and his photography portfolio here.  Plus you can also stalk him here.

If you would like to submit your work for a possible feature on the website please email sandbar_manchester@live.com with a link to your online portfolio along with a 10 - 50 word description of yourself and/or your body of work.

What the **** do they put in that cider?- Blusey Steve, Event Organiser So, first post from me and its the birth of the “half arsed choir” in the dank basement of Manchester’s Bluesy Steve. Cider bottles, broken cables and shattered guitars strewn over the floor, but most importantly egg boxes (thanks to an ancient forgotten idea of ‘sound proofing’). It was two weeks ago the ever resourceful Scoot (often to be seen at Busking Ballads, noticeable for been dressed exactly as myself but with a Mohican) fashioned a mic stand from a cymbal stand and an egg box. Genius. Used again today by myself as “the half arsed choir” met for only the second time for a jam. He may be a mere scrap of a boy but he’s the most energy filled blues harpist I’ve ever met, Mr Tyler Hatwell, joined myself and another Busking Ballads regular and cider drinking reprobate Mr Medicine Stu. Songs were exchanged, songs were learnt, classics were slaughtered, all gearing up for the recording of my first E.P. Hopefully some of these jams will osmosis onto the stage at your friendly local Wednesday night open mic, Busking Ballads. Anyone who is to witness this bizarre meeting would be surely saying, ‘what the **** do they put in that cider?’ Much like Stu and myself on a Thursday morning after a night on Sandbars lethal hand pulled apple juice.- Blusey Steve runs “Busking Ballads”, an open mic acoustic event at sandbar the 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month.  Check out upcoming dates here.

Lazy Sunday.

The dust settles on sandbar’s floor after last nights sculpture student extravaganza.  Art is taken off the walls.  Sound cables are recounted.  I count at least two and half extra bags beneath my eyes.

So, Sunday is here.  I think there’s a football match on somewhere.  Everything is quiet and chilled here with tea sippers, scrabble playing.  That is until Sunday’s equipment test.  Sorry chaps.

Enjoy your Sunday.  Relax to music.  Eat a strawberry?  Hope you don’t get caught up in the football mobs.

Friday Featured Artist:  JESS MARSHALL

It’s Friday and we turn the spotlight once again to another artist, this time one by the name of Jess Marshall.  Jess is an illustrator studying currently at MMU.  Allot of her work has a quirky, subtle humour (if you were going to ask me I’d say it’s Napoleon Dynamitey in it’s humour.  Yes, I did an MA so I could say that).

Jess also works on band posters and events.  She is also looking for other artists, collectives, bands, promoters and the like to work with.  Check out more of her portfolio at www.jessmarshall.co.uk and give her a bell if the notion tickles your fancy.

If you would like to submit your work for a possible feature on the website please email sandbar_manchester@live.com with a link to your online portfolio along with a 10 - 50 word description of yourself and/or your body of work.
